How Much Does Artificial Turf Cleaning Cost in DFW, and How Often Do You Need It?

The cost of a professional artificial turf cleaning in Dallas-Fort Worth is set by four things: how many square feet you have, how dirty and compacted the turf is, whether pets use it, and which add-ons (OxyTurf treatment, infill top-up, minor repairs) the visit includes. Most residential lawns need a professional cleaning once a year. Pet areas need it quarterly. Commercial, playground and sports turf is usually on a monthly or quarterly schedule. Everything below explains why, and what you get for the money.

What determines artificial turf cleaning cost

We do not publish a flat rate because two yards of the same size can be very different jobs. When we quote a cleaning in DFW, these are the factors on the sheet:

1. Square footage

Labor and product scale with area. A 400 square foot side-yard dog run is a quick visit. A 4,000 square foot front and back lawn or an apartment community dog park is a half-day or more with two crew members.

2. Condition and time since last cleaning

Turf that has been rinsed and brushed by the homeowner every month cleans up quickly. Turf that has not been touched in three years, with matted fibers, compacted infill and a layer of pollen and dust in the backing, takes more passes with the power brush and more rinse water. Turf under pecans and live oaks is almost always in the second category.

3. Pets

Urine crystals in the backing and infill are the source of the smell, and they do not rinse out with a hose. Pet areas need an OxyTurf bacteria and odor treatment, which adds product and dwell time to the visit. If several dogs use the yard, expect the treatment to cover the whole lawn rather than one corner.

4. Add-ons

  • Infill top-up where traffic has thinned it, so the fibers stand up and the surface drains
  • Minor repairs found during the inspection, such as re-securing a lifted edge or re-gluing a short seam
  • Sanitizing treatment for playgrounds and daycare surfaces
  • Maintenance contract pricing, which lowers the per-visit cost for quarterly or monthly service

We provide a written quote after an on-site or photo assessment, and there is no charge for the estimate. Request a cleaning or repair visit to get one.

How often should artificial turf be cleaned?

The Synthetic Turf Council, the industry’s trade association, publishes maintenance guidelines for infilled synthetic turf that treat regular grooming and debris removal as part of owning turf, not an optional extra. Here is the schedule we use for North Texas properties:

Turf typeHomeowner upkeepProfessional cleaning
Residential lawn, no petsBlow off leaves monthly, rinse dusty areas as neededOnce a year
Residential lawn with dogsRinse potty areas weekly in summer, spot-treat odorQuarterly, with OxyTurf
Pool surroundRinse sunscreen and splash-out weekly in seasonOnce or twice a year
Playground or daycareDaily debris checkQuarterly, with sanitizing treatment
Commercial common area or dog parkWeekly debris removal by grounds staffMonthly or quarterly contract
Sports field or batting cageGrooming per manufacturer scheduleQuarterly, plus annual inspection

Why DFW turf needs cleaning more often than the brochure says

Heat is the reason. The National Weather Service’s 1991 to 2020 climate normals for DFW put the normal July high at 95.6 degrees and count 20.2 days per year at 100 degrees or above. Bacteria in a pet area multiply faster on a hot surface, so a backyard that smelled fine in April can be unpleasant by late June. Spring pollen, oak tassels and summer dust storms add to the load. If your turf is in Plano, Frisco or Fort Worth and you have a dog, quarterly is the right answer.

What happens during a turf cleaning visit

Customers often ask what they are paying for, so here is the full visit, in order:

  1. Walkthrough and inspection. We look for lifted edges, open seams, low infill, drainage problems and heavy-use zones before any equipment comes off the truck.
  2. Debris removal. Commercial blowers and turf rakes clear leaves, husks, mulch and loose dirt.
  3. Deep rinse. Water is pushed through the fibers and backing to flush dust, pollen and fine soil into the base.
  4. Power brushing. A rotary turf brush decompacts the infill and stands the fibers back up. This is the step a homeowner cannot replicate with a broom.
  5. Infill leveling and top-up. Infill is redistributed from high spots to worn paths and added where it has thinned.
  6. OxyTurf treatment. On pet and playground areas, the treatment is applied, allowed to dwell, then brushed through.
  7. Final inspection and report. We confirm drainage, note anything that needs repair, and tell you when the turf is dry enough to use.

A typical residential visit takes a few hours. The turf can be used as soon as it dries. The longer explanation of each step is on our artificial turf cleaning, repair and maintenance page.

Can you clean artificial turf yourself?

Yes, and you should, between professional visits. Rinse pet areas, blow off debris, and brush high-traffic paths against the grain with a stiff nylon broom. What a homeowner cannot do well is decompact infill across a whole lawn, flush the backing, or break down urine crystals in the backing. Enzyme sprays from the hardware store help on the surface, but the smell comes back with the next hot afternoon because the source is below the fibers. How to choose an artificial turf cleaning company in DFW

A pressure washer and a leaf blower do not make a turf cleaning company. Ask these questions before you book:

  • Do you power brush, or only rinse? Rinsing alone leaves the infill compacted and the fibers flat.
  • What do you use for pet odor, and does it treat the backing? Surface deodorizers mask; OxyTurf breaks down the crystals.
  • Do you inspect seams and edges, and can you repair them? A cleaning crew that cannot fix a lifted edge will leave you calling someone else.
  • Do you install turf as well? Installers understand base and drainage problems, which is what most “cleaning” complaints turn out to be.
  • Are you accredited and reviewed? Check the BBB rating and Google reviews, and look for a physical local office.
  • Will you clean turf you did not install? The answer should be yes.
